2023 Career Talk Series – An Immersion Program to Australian Education
Saturday, 8 July 2023
The 4th Career Talk Series immersion program for 2023, held on July 8th at Taylor’s University main auditorium, achieved remarkable success with nearly 120 participants attending the 3-hour session. Among the attendees were 2 buses of students from Maverick School and individuals, including parents and students, who registered through our MAAC social media promotions.
Each year, we select a preferred university partner to offer parents, students, teachers, and counsellors a comprehensive tour of an Australian university campus in Malaysia.
This program, organised annually by the Education & Welfare team, receives strong support from both the Australian State and Federal Governments, including the Australian High Commission Kuala Lumpur, the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), and the Australian Department of Education.
The objectives of the event were to showcase and promote Australian education and institutions of higher learning to Malaysians, provide scholarship opportunities through promoting the MACC Scholarships offered by Australian universities, and highlight alumni from various universities as speakers.
Sponsors for this session included RMIT University (alumnus Ms. Law Hong Mei) as the Alumni Speaker & Gift Sponsor, the University of South Australia (alumnus Mr. Paul Low) as the Alumni Speaker Sponsor, Taylor’s University as the Venue & Catering Sponsor, and MAAC President, Ms. Pat Yeoh as the Transport Sponsor. We extend our gratitude to all parties for contributing gifts and information to the welcome bags for participants.
Key speakers and VIPs at the event included Ms. Srii Gunaseelan, Senior Business Development Manager, Education at Austrade, representing the Counsellor for the Australian Department of Education, Ms Fiona Morris who shared insights on the quality of Australian universities, rankings, and general information on student visas. Pat Yeoh, President of the MAAC, delivered the welcome speech, while Mina Lim served as emcee and Q&A game master. Datin Tiew Lee Sin, the MACC Scholarships Ambassador, shared her experience as a MACC Scholar at Griffith University.
The success of the 4th Career Talk Series was made possible by the tireless efforts of Teo Eu Gene, who coordinated videography, digital poster design, online registration form design, event promotion, marketing, transportation, and onsite production, alongside Sue Wong and Chelsea Lai from the Education & Welfare team for onsite registration and setup. Special thanks to MAAC Exco member Joanne Ng for her assistance with onsite registration and setup.
Following the event, a video was produced to document the proceedings and continue promoting excellent Australian education. You can view the video on our YouTube Channel.
