The MAAC Voice 2016

The MAAC Voice 2016 is the inaugural Karaoke competition organised by the MAAC at RedBox, The Gardens, Midvalley on 25th June 2016. This competition was organised to enable the discovery of talents of Australian Alumni while allowing Australian Alumni of various Universities to come together and network. Since it’s the first ever held event, we had 5 talented contestants that sung in front of the crowd of more than 20 Alumni. The contestants are as follows:

  • Dr Ahmad Aldrie Amir, alumnus of The University of Queensland
  • Ms Debaroti Dasgupta , alumnus of Australian National University
  • Mr Raymond Tanuwidjaja, alumnus of Australian National University
  • Ms Serena See Ping Nee, alumnus of Victoria University
  • Mr Sow Tin Jeng, alumnus of The University of Sydney

The MAAC has the privilege to invite 3 alumni who are qualified and prominent judges in the music industry. They are:

  • Mr Ken Phua
    Executive Director of Bentley Music, an alumnus of University of the Sunshine Coast
  • Mr Leslie Loh
    Founder of Pop Music, an alumnus of The University of New South Wales
  • Ms Tesa Wang
    Trained soprano and judge for various music competitions, an alumnus of University of South Australia

Before the start of the competition, Ms Pat Yeoh, the MAAC President was invited to give a short speech, which was followed by a short introduction of the judges and contestants. As each contestants took their turn to sing 2 songs each, the judges gave points and comments to their performance. One of the main criteria is that one of the 2 songs must be from an Australian band or singer. In this competition, 3 finalists will be chosen to perform at The MAAC 7th Australian Alumni Gala Dinner 2016, which will be held on 2nd December 2016 at the Mayang Sari Grand Ballroom at the JW Marriott Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Before the announcement of the results, Ms Pat Yeoh was invited to give a token to each contestants and judges. The 3 finalists were:

  1. Dr Ahmad Aldrie Amir, alumnus of The University of Queensland
  2. Ms Debaroti Dasgupta , alumnus of Australian National University
  3. Ms Serena See Ping Nee, alumnus of Victoria University

Each finalists will be given 2 complimentary tickets to the Australian Alumni Gala Dinner 2016. They will also perform at the dinner where guests at the dinner will decide the champion. The champion will be rewarded with a cash prize of RM 200.00 and a 3 days 2 nights stay for 2 at selected Swiss Garden Hotel, which is sponsored by Ms Nicole Lim, MAAC Vice President (Bilateral Relations) and alumnus of the University of Newcastle.
